In the first two chapters of the Bible, God creates everything perfect. And in the last two chapters, we learn that he is ultimately going to restore it to perfection. “Look! I am making everything new!” (Revelation 21:5)

But there's a part we often miss.

Long before the Revelation, Paul wrote these words to the church in Corinth: “If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has gone, and the new is here!” (2 Corinthians 5:17)

God has already started making everything new. He makes us new and then works through us to make more things new!

It began with Jesus 2,000 years ago. He pulled together a few hundred people willing to follow him anywhere he went and began the greatest adventure of all time. It got him killed (and most of his closest followers too), but it was never boring and they began to make the world new.

His offer to join him in that adventure is still open.

He said that anyone who trusted him would do the same things he did — and even greater things (John 14:12). If you’re willing to forsake everything and follow him wherever he leads, he promises a depth of joy and satisfaction of life that you can’t even imagine.

The adventure looks different for everyone, but it always means leaving your comfort zone and venturing into a life you can’t handle on your own. It’s an adventure. It’s regularly unsettling, frequently terrifying, and unbelievably fulfilling. It’s literally what you were created for (Ephesians 2:10).

But you never go alone. Jesus said he wouldn’t abandon you like an orphan (John 14:18). He said he would be with you always — even to the end of the age (Matthew 28:20).

And the members of SoFo Church won’t leave you either. We help carry each other’s burdens (Galatians 6:2) through good times and bad (Acts 2:44-45), because this life of adventure can’t be lived solo.

The local church’s job is to equip you (Ephesians 4:11-12) — to continually give you the tools and training to go deeper into the wildness of life and into the ever-increasing joy that will blow your mind — and that’s what we intend to do.
